The Brickhouse Cafe

Settled in the hustle bustle of the noisy Lokhandwala Market, The Brickhouse Cafe is one place that you should not miss. The ambience is great with good music, drinks and amazing food.

We ordered 'Nachos Grande' which was grand with a lot of cheese and Piri Piri Chicken which was spicy, but good. The hero of the night for me was the 'Country Fried Steak' which has the most delicious sauce and succulent chicken.

I've been there twice, and it's been a fun memorable experience both times. Complete with breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. If you're planning to visit, do drop in on Tuesday. It's a fun Karaoke night organised by Off Beat Karaoke. I'm pretty much completely off beat but it's fun to sing along and lip sync most times.

All in all, a wonderful experience. Great food. Great music. It's a quaint little place where you can just chill out and let your hair loose.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

I've been feeling a strange craving for cookies in the past few days and so I decided to bake them myself. It's my first attempt at making them, and if I may say so... they didn't turn out so bad. Nobody choked! Turns out, I actually CAN bake and I quite liked it too. So here's what I did.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

What you need :
  • All purpose flour (Maida) - 1 cup + 2 tablespoon
  • Baking soda - ½ teaspoon
  • Salt - a pinch, skip it if using salted butter
  • Unsalted butter - ½ cup or 1 stick, soften to room temperature
  • Granulated sugar - ¼ cup
  • Light brown sugar - ¼ cup
  • Vanilla extract - ½ teaspoon
  • Milk - 2 tablespoons
  • Chocolate chips - ½ cup

What to do :
  • Line a cookie sheet with butter paper
  • Take a bowl and mix Maida and baking soda in a bowl. Mix it till it's incorporated.
  • Take the butter, melt it just a little if you've just taken it out of the fridge. Beat it with wire whisk or by electric mixer till it becomes creamy and smooth.
  • Then add both sugars (granulated and brown sugar). Again beat till it becomes fluffy (about 2 minutes).
  • Then add vanilla extract and milk. Whisk till it gets incorporated.
  • Add dry ingredients. Beat it until incorporated.
  • Add chocolate chips. And fold them in. If dough looks soft and sticky than chill it into refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
  • Now make 1 inch size balls from chilled cookie dough. Place on the cookie sheet few inches apart from each other, because they will spread as bake.
  • Bake them for 10-12 minutes in microwave until the edges have become golden brown.
  • Let it cool into the sheet for 5 minutes. Voila! Chocolate Chip Cookies are ready!

It's simple and easy to do. If I can manage it, I'm sure anyone can.

Pratap Da Dhaba

A quaint little place in Oshiwara, Pratap Da Dhaba is every bit the quintessential Punjabi Dhaba you find almost anywhere in Punjab. It has the right ambience, the greatest food and some great Pan Shots to go at the end of a wholesome meal!

The minute you enter Pratap's, you will be greeted with a lot of Punjabi Statues that set the mood. If you sit out in the open, you can relax in the wickerwork chairs and breathe in the fresh air. Once you're comfortably settled in and cross legged, you'll be ready to fill your stomach with the delicious food. They serve drinks too, so if Beer and Biryani are your thing, you've come to the right place.

First up, let's talk Starters.

We ordered for Tandoori Chicken, Malai Kebabs and Hariyali Kebabs all of which appealed to my taste buds right away. Sprinkle some 'nimbu' and have it with onions while you drink that beer.

Once we were sated with starters, we moved on to the main course with Butter Chicken, Butter Naan, Kali Daal and White Rice. Can I just say, that this place has one of the most amazing plates of Butter Chicken I've ever had! It has a lot of cream, and you won't like it as much if you don't like cream, but it does have the 'lick your fingers clean' type feeling.

At the end of the meal, they serve you these Paan Shots that are good too!

All in all, the food was worth every penny I spent. It's a little on the expensive side, but I bet it's worth it. If you're not in a mood to cook or eat home made food, or you're just looking to get out, go to Pratap's and experience being in Punjab!

Food Love!

There are two kinds of people in this world. One who love to eat, and the other who care about their weight.

Me?

I'm your regular 'eat all you can' type of girl. I love food, and I love blogging about food. Mostly about my loving mothers 'Haath ka khaana'

Because let's face it, food's always there to make you happy when people can't. :)
